A gunman described as a “disgruntled employee” shot at least one person and took multiple hostages in a Charlteston, South Carolina restaurant on Thursday, Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg said.
It’s unclear what condition the victim is in, or how many hostages are being held.
Police have told media that terrorism is not suspected.
A section of King Street, in the city’s central commercial district, was blocked to cars and pedestrians because of the situation, Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis said in a statement. Few other details were immediately available.
