Season 12 of the American police procedural drama TV series “Criminal Minds” is set to return to CBS this coming fall and the biggest news thus far about the show is that Adam Rodriguez will be coming in to fill the big shoes left by veteran actor Shemar Moore.
Moore plays special agent Derek Morgan in the TV series and he moved out from “Criminal Minds” after the 16th episode of Season 11 to focus on other things. He has been part of the TV series from the beginning.
Rodriguez will surely be under the microscope as both fans and critics will be closely watching him if he is going to successfully fill the void created by the absence of a great actor like Moore, notes Movie News Guide.
A veteran TV actor himself, Rodriguez will take on the role of a special agent who is part of the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force. He has been part of several TV series in the past including “CSI: Miami,” “Jane the Virgin,” “Reckless,” “The Night Shift,” “Necessary Roughness,” and “Ugly Betty.”
The actor has been cast in several films including “Magic Mike,” “Magic Mike XXL,” and “About Last Night.”
Based on previous reports, the upcoming Season 12 of “Criminal Minds” shall focus on the efforts of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) of the FBI to capture a number of criminals who were able to break free from jail during the Season 11 finale.
The show is also expected to put emphasis on the BAU’s efforts to catch Mr. Scratch and the 12 absconding killers who managed to escape.
While “Criminal Minds” Season 11 just had its finale last month, showrunner Erica Messer confirmed that pre-production work for the show’s 12th season is now in progress.
She said that the writers of the show will already start writing the story this month which is more than enough time before the show starts filming sometime soon.
Messer said that everyone is eager to work and see how the BAU team catches the bad guys and Mr. Scratch again during the premiere episode of Season 12.
The lady showrunner also hinted that Mr. Scratch shall be playing a vital role in the upcoming season. The past seasons of “Criminal Minds” showed that Mr. Scratch is one of the most notorious and wanted criminals in the list of BAU.
He once manipulated Supervisory Special Agent Hotch, played by Thomas Gibson, and psychologically turned him to believe that Mr. Scratch killed Dr. Spencer Reid, played by Matthew Gray Gubler, Morgan, and Rossi, played by Joe Mantegna. But Hotch eventually found out that everyone was alive and that he was merely put into some sort of trance by Mr. Scratch.
First outline in the bag
There are also reports saying that the first outline for the new season of “Criminal Minds” has been completed and that the writers have already crafted the overall direction and vision of the show, details the Hall of Fame Magazine.
Many expect that more details will be revealed about the plotlines among other things about the upcoming Season 12 of “Criminal Minds.”
Season 12 of “Criminal Minds” will reportedly pick up from the huge Season 11 cliffhanger.
With a number of previously apprehended criminals breaking out of jail, the hands of the BAU team of the FBI will be full right on the get-go of Season 12. So it is expected that “Criminal Minds” would have another slam-bang premiere episode later this year.
The Season 11 finale saw a calm dinner that turned into a violent one when the place of Rossi, played by Joe Mantegna, had been cut while three inmates bolted from the cell. As a result, Peter Lewis was able to escape along with a dozen of certified killers.
