If you have a fear of clowns, Criminal Minds season 13 episode 17 is probably going to freak you out. In “The Capilanos,” directed by series star Matthew Gray Gubler, the BAU is called to Oklahoma to investigate a murderous clown terrorizing the sleepy town of Guymon.

Find out what the UnSub did to the victims in this clip:
Both victims, Sam Franklin and Mark Wilson, were beaten to death in their homes. Both homes were robbed and both men had “that super-sensitive side” of their mouths, as Garcia puts it, cut to look like they were smiling. Since they were already dead, that wasn’t about inflicting more pain but a compulsion of the UnSub’s.
The UnSub has a type (strong married men with kids) and while at first glance, he seems like a family annihilator attacking the home, he’s not killing the whole family and is destroying the heads of households without an audience. Could there be some mercy in him?
The answer is likely no, since the second victim’s 7-year-old son saw the whole thing and says his father was killed by a clown.
Check out a sneak peek of what the son of a victim saw:
The kid definitely saw a clown, and Reid says that the level of detail in the costume suggests something precise, which makes him feel like the face would be hand-painted. That tracks with the grease paint found under the latest victim’s nails.
Such a specific disguise suggests that the UnSub has an obsession, and it could be his alter ego. The disguise could be helping him find confidence, so it is possible that he may start a spree.
