Stoddart spent 23 years as a top prosecutor in the Rockwall County district attorney’s office. His experience there was rich: He led the appellate division and ran the whole office for two years after a scandal that did not implicate him sent his boss to prison.
At the time he was named to the bench, Stoddart had no criminal defense experience or significant experience trying complex civil cases. But he does now have four years’ experience as a justice.
Nowell has no experience as a criminal lawyer or as a judge, and her career in recent years has not included significant work before any appellate court.
We recommend that voters keep Stoddart on the bench.
